Is Saturday a business day worked ?

No, in most sectors, Saturday is not a business day. It is usually only a working day. It also becomes a business day in companies whose business activity usually takes place on Saturdays, such as shops, restaurants, hotels and transport.

What are the business days ?

In most companies, business days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. By default, this excludes Saturdays, which have the status of working days only. Business days are days that are usually worked, while working days are days on which it is legally possible to work, depending on how the company is organized.

However, as mentioned above, some companies are open from Tuesday to Saturday, to meet service requirements. In this case, Saturday becomes a business day. This is decided by the collective bargaining agreement, or at company level via a company agreement.

What impact does this have on vacation calculation ?

There is a difference between managing vacations in working days and in business days. When calculated in business days, the employee receives 25 days, and if Saturday is not a business day, it is not deducted, so one week represents 5 days’ leave deducted.

On the other hand, when calculated in working days, the employee has 30 days, and Saturdays are deducted up to a limit of 5 per year.
