You want to take a week’s vacation and you’re wondering how many days will be deducted from your vacation pay. The answer depends on your company’s calculation method: in business days or in working days<\/a>. Both calculation methods are managed by My Intranet HRIS software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calculation in business days<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In this case, the employee is entitled to 25 days paid vacation per year. When a full week is taken, 5 days are counted from Monday to Friday, since business days run from Monday to Friday. In most companies, Saturday is not a business day<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calculation in working days<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Working days run from Monday to Saturday. An employee is therefore entitled to 5 x 6 days = 30 days paid vacation per year. When a full week is taken, 6 days are deducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the employee can also take partial weeks. The rule is that the employee must not be disadvantaged between a calculation in business days and a calculation in working days. This means that no more than 5 Saturdays will be counted per vacation period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So a week’s paid vacation is equal to 5 business days and 6 working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case of part-time work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Depending on the company, part-timers may have their vacation entitlement prorated or be granted the same number of days as full-time employees. By law, this approach must not penalize part-timers, who have the same vacation entitlement as full-time employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you prorate, you have to ensure that they can take their full 5 weeks’ vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
